Meet Dr. Manuel Urteaga
Dr. Urteaga understands the importance and significance community colleges play in the lives of so many.
Central goals of his are to increase the exposure of the college as well as significantly increase enrollment.
This can be achieved by offering more courses, more trade pathways, highlighting the importance of the arts and building strong relationships with community partners that will lead to careers for Rio Hondo graduates.
Dr. Urteaga has been an assistant professor at his chiropractic alma mater Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCUHS) for over 15 years and has instructed numerous courses including Clinical Orthopedic & Neurologic Assessment and Practice Management. Dr. Urteaga has also created numerous courses and has been instrumental in the University’s curriculum redesign, most specifically writing course content and Student Learning Objectives (SLO’s) for all six business courses.
Dr. Manuel Urteaga was born and raised in Montebello and attended Montebello High school. Dr. Urteaga attended East Los Angeles college and Rio Hondo before transferring to California State University, Fullerton where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science. Dr. Urteaga also earned his Master of Science degree from California State University, Long Beach and his Doctorate in Chiropractic from SCUHS.
Over the years Dr. Urteaga has earned numerous distinct credentials and certifications. He is currently a Qualified Medical Evaluator (QME), Certified Medical Examiner (CME), Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician (CCSP), Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), and has earned the American College of Sports Medicine’s highest distinction as a Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist (RCEP).
Dr. Urteaga has committed himself to community service and volunteer work over the years. He has been a board member of the Whittier Community Foundation for 10 years serving as Vice-president and President and has helped raise over $1.5 million for various projects for the greater Whittier community. He is also a board member of the Rio Hondo Foundation and was a volunteer volleyball coach at Montebello High School for over 20 years.
Dr. Urteaga currently owns and operates four chiropractic offices in Whittier, Cerritos, Irwindale and Orange and manages a team with over 30 employees. He has also been serving as the team doctor for Montebello high school since 2014. Dr. Urteaga lives in Whittier with his Wife Kristina and daughter Hazel.
